Why Printed Images Are Better Than Digital Images

Are you wondering whether printed images or digital images are better?

With the increasing popularity of digital technology there is no doubt that digital images have become more accessible and convenient.  However, printed images still have their own unique benefits that make them a much superior option.  Here, I explore why printed images are important.

With the rise of digital technology, many people have been quick to embrace the convenience and accessibility of digital images.   Despite their popularity, printed images still hold their own unique benefits and advantages over digitals.

  1. Durability and Longevity

Printed images are much more durable and long-lasting than digitals.  Digital images can be lost or corrupted due to hardware failures, software glitches, and other technical problems. Not only that but cloud storage is not infallible.   Printed images, on the other hand, are tangible and can last for many years without fading or deteriorating, provided they are stored in proper conditions.  In many years from now your children and even their children will look through their pictures with pride.    That just simply won’t happen when images exist on hard drives.  If you think of floppy disks – they no longer exist.  New computers no longer come with an optical hard drive.   The ability to view digital images will change and in some cases will not be possible.

  1. Emotional Connection

Printed images have a more personal and emotional connection than digital images. When you hold a printed image in your hands, it’s like holding a piece of your memories.  It’s a legacy.  Printed images can be cherished, passed down from generation to generation, and displayed proudly.  My father died recently – can you imagine if I only had digital images of him?   Instead I have printed images of him as a little boy, throughout his life and as an adult.  They are priceless.

  1. Unique Aesthetic

Printed images have a unique aesthetic that cannot be replicated with digital images. The texture, weight, and physical presence of printed images give them a timeless quality that digital images simply cannot match.  There is nothing like having a beautiful framed portrait on the wall which you see every day.

Those are just three reasons why printed images are better than digital images.

Now, I do offer the option of digital images to my clients.  I am not a photographer who says “I’m not doing that” because I believe in giving the client what they want.  I can only offer advice.   Generally, my clients tend to purchase digital images and then also some beautiful wall art.  Often they purchase beautiful framed images, or they may purchase a Reveal Box.  This contains 10, 20 or 30 images and I’ll do another post on the reveal box in my next post.
